Self-learning especially through reading is crucial for society’s development. It is necessary to have places promoting education and self-learning to educate the local population within the closest proximity.”

Providing access to learning across the globe is something that should be equal no matter where you are located. By placing the structure in Bawku in northern Ghana, it provides access for all locals, but also those affected by the war and outbreaks occurring in Burkina Faso which has seen many of their people flee into the northern part of Ghana.

The library will be built from locally sourced materials, by the locals themselves as a further learning experience. Whilst water tanks capture the scarce rainfall running from the thatched straw roofs. Detachable plastic canvases offer flexible shelter from the sun and wind.

This library will become more than a place for books, but a place of physical learning too. The canvas acting as the backdrop for the projector, the structure introduces a modern style of computer-based learning. The captured rainwater allows for the children to cultivate the inner courtyard and to learn about the agriculture of the land they live on – something that is crucial to Ghana’s history.
